Dr. Sanjeet Kumar Mahtha,
MK Bhan Young Researcher
I have completed my PhD from Dr. Gitanjali Yadav lab at National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR), New Delhi. During my PhD, I had worked on Computational analysis of StAR-related lipid transfer (START) domains in plants kingdom. I have skills in the areas of sequence analysis, comparative genomics, evolutionary study, structural analysis and systems biology. You can reach me at sanjeetmahtha@gmail.com. [More Details]

Since childhood I have been fascinated by animals. My interest led me to pursue Zoology for my undergraduate and postgraduate degree. Over time I got interested in genetics and later on genomics and that is where my stint with bioinformatics began. Here, I have been working on unannotated small gene identification problem.
My belief is that a lot remains to be learnt in the area of population genetics, genomics and evolutionary biology.I am proficient in programming, machine learning, RNA-seq, Ribo-seq and Linux and love applying these techniques for analysing genomes. [More Details]

My educational background is a bit diverse. I did my bachelor’s in Chemistry and master’s in Biochemistry but now I became an Artificial Intelligence enthusiast here in my PhD. My project is based on building an ML model for predicting antibiotic resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. I am proficient in the Python language and also familiar with web programming. I always push myself to take challenges to be the best possible student I can be. Apart from education I enjoy music, adventures and spending time with myself. [More Details]

My project revolves around understanding the effect of oncogenic mutations on kinase like EGFR which leads to various types of cancers (eg. lung cancer, head and neck cancer, etc.) and development of kinase inhibitors. I think what fascinates me most is how this cancer research area is very vast and huge amount of data in terms of genomic data, proteomics data, etc., is being generated every year and not to mention there are databases like ZINC15 which contains almost 100 millions chemical compounds yet to be screened against different oncogenic proteins. I think utilizing all this available data is very important and might give us some very important insights into causation of cancer and its mechanism. I am proficient in molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations techniques. I am familiar with machine learning/deep learning and use python programming language frequently. [More Details]

In a world of developing AI tools and its increasing involvement in human lives I have been curious to know how it works. Though my background is masters in biochemistry, never studied bioinformatics so I am curious to know and learn new things. I am really excited for my journey ahead. I am planning to be a tool developer and design such tools which has applications in the field of medicine, developing treatments and procedures for patients.
